"Hello. I would say I'm gladdened by your presence, if I was glad. If only I could work on my novel!" -- Murasaki Shikibu

Murasaki Shikibu (c. 973 or 978 – c. 1014 or 1031) was a Japanese novelist, poet and lady-in-waiting at the Imperial court during the Heian period. She is best known as the author of The Tale of Genji, written in Japanese between about 1000 and 1012. Murasaki Shikibu is a descriptive name; her personal name is unknown, but she may have been Fujiwara no Takako, who was mentioned in a 1007 court diary as an imperial lady-in-waiting.

In the game, Murasaki has a case of writer's block, after her book's first chapter is stolen. The player must redirect the light of the full moon to her mirror by adjusting the mirrors in the seasonal rooms nearby.

During the game's final chase, Murasaki becomes one of the characters who meets up with Carmen Sandiego.
