The Chief is one of the recurring characters in the Carmen Sandiego franchise. Though different in appearance and personality, each character is refered to only as Chief and is in charge of the ACME Detective Agency.
Early Computer GamesEdit
In the early games in the Carmen Sandiego series, the Chief was depicted as a mysterious man. Not much is said about him. The player never gets a good look at him and he usually communicates with detectives by computer.
Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego introduced a new chief played by late Lynne Thigpen. Unlike the previous chief, this one was clearly visible and had a well-defined personality. Thigpen's chief returned for the Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego? game show as well as remakes of the games Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?, Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego?, and Where in the U.S.A. is Carmen Sandiego?
Where on Earth is Carmen Sandiego?EditWhere on Earth is Carmen Sandiego? introduced a new chief played by Rodger Bumpass. This chief is a computer AI depicted as a floating head. Unlike the other chiefs, this one has sentimental feelings for Carmen Sandiego from their days together at ACME. That doesn't stop him from doing all that he can to capture Carmen. As a joke Carmen programs an evil version of him to oversee her training grounds.
Later Computer GamesEdit
The newest incarnation of the Chief was introduced in Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego: Treasures of Knowledge. Played by Marcie Henderson, this incarnation looks very similar to Lynne Thigpen. However, this one hasn't been as well defined yet.
Wii GamesEditThe Chief from a woman was changed to a male as you never got to see his face because of the shadow of the hat, he appears in all the 5 games by helping the agent and sending the agent cases.
His first apperance in a Wii Game is always when the agent goes into his office and then gets the case when the Chief says it. He also apppears in the math games telling the agent, you how to do the game and figure it out.
No one can see his face because of the shadow of the hat. He seems to wear everything in black as his coat, boots and hat.
